Eliyahu Ernst Grünwald

Righteous Among
the Nations

Margita Dovlevová

Margita Report

Margita Dovlevová (Straková), together with her parents Ján and Karolína, hid my grandfather Eliyahu Ernst Grünwald (together with his friend, Eugen Mermelstein) in the village of Beladice in Slovakia. Margita paid a heavy price for her actions and was brutally interrogated by the Gestapo.
With great respect and admiration, and with a desire to illuminate the noble actions of Margita and her parents, I have decided to title the report in her name.

  • The entire report (visual items) does not attempt to express any opinion towards any individual or political entity. Its purpose is solely to provide expression and recognition to the small light that sparkles within the great darkness of the Jewish Holocaust.

  • The data is updated until January 2022.
  • There are Righteous who held multiple citizenships, which may result in minor discrepancies in the number of Righteous in each country between this report and the one published by Yad Vashem. Regarding the number of citizenships,An attempt been made to link citizenships that no longer exist (such as the Kingdom of Italy, the Kingdom of Bulgaria, Cisleithania, and others) to the countries that inherted them.
  • An exceptional case is Austria-Hungary, where I found that attempting to attribute all its Righteous to a single successor country may introduce excessive data errors. Therefore, it is presented as a separate country, even though it did not exist as a political entity during World War II.
  • Thanks to the Wikidata Foundation.
  • Thanks to the "Yad Vashem" organization for their professional and respectful involvement in this amazing project called

    "Righteous Among the Nations".

  • Thank  to the dear people: Elior, Yair, Eli, Gabi, Eitan and Dany, who provided their feedback and advice for improving the report before publication.
  • A special thank you to my grandfather, Eliyahu Grünwald Saba Papi, for being an exemplary role model of recognizing the good, love for life, daring to be bold, and preserving the memory of the Holocaust and the people who perished in it.
